A little more about the brain behind ProPolish

A curious child becomes a curious adult if the gift is nurtured and encouraged. That’s what happened to me.

I was teased for my incessant need to know the scoop and for my dedication to writing essays and newspapers. However, I took the criticism in stride. I really wanted to be the next Ann Landers or her twin sister, Dear Abby.

I much preferred Ann’s style, but when I began reading the works of Erma Bombeck and Dave Berry on the other side of the page I said, “That’s what I want to do when I grow up.”

My favorite quote is from Mrs. Bombeck, “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and I could say, ‘I used everything that you gave me.’”

That’s my mission – to use my gift of words to help others find their story and share it with the world.

Originally from the Jackson, Mississippi area, I earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in print publications and public relations from The University of Mississippi. I’m two classes away from a second degree in political science.

My initial career aspiration was to be a hard-nosed political reporter, but the call of freelance writing for publications and businesses and a cute Mississippi boy called me away from the world of politics.

I spent three years as managing editor for a pizza industry trade publication where I was in charge of many facets of magazine and online content as well publicity for the U.S. Pizza Team. I then spent several years in the healthcare marketing industry and helped launch a major academic patient care brand. I then joined an up-and-coming software company as the lead marketing writer. During this time, I began moonlighting with freelance projects that included articles, web copy and ghostwriting for books and courses. In 2011, I decided to leave the corporate world to pursue a freelance career.

Since that move, I have worked on more than 30 full-length book projects, online and print course development, website launches, online and offline marketing communications, social media program development, nonprofit communications (including grants and fundraising), and as a writer and editor for entrepreneurs and niche marketing agencies. I have also developed an arm of my business dedicated to helping jobseekers and project-based professionals craft compelling personal marketing documents.

When I’m not writing, you can find me reading a book and avoiding the dishes and laundry.
